What is ECC Memory?

What is ECC?

ECC memory stands for Error Checking and Correction. Using ECC memory allows the system to detect and correct single bit errors. ECC is not recommended for home PCs because the home PCs are normally shut down regularly. ECC memory is most commonly found in servers where they are not shut down. It is estimated that a single bit soft error occurs once per 1GB of memory per month, running at 24 hours a day.

Flavors of ECC memory

Registered ECC uses buffers to temporarily hold data for one clock cycle before it is transferred. This increases reliability but sacrifices speed due to the additional clock cycle. We suggest Registered ECC for systems with 4GB of memory or more.

Unbuffered ECC allows the system to directly access the each memory chip on the module. It is faster but suffers a bit on the reliability side compared to registered ECC. Best used for system memory that is lower than 4GB.

You also see CL7 or CL9 on some memory modules like Kingston. These refer to the clock cycle. CL7 is faster than CL9 and is more expensive. Also, when a price list refers to kit of 2, it means that you get two pieces. So a 4gb in kit of 2 means that you are getting 2 pcs of 2gb that gives you a total of 4gb. Kingston does this to make sure that your memory modules are an exact match when you place it on your system

Huawei's OceanStor Product

Huawei OceanStorTM S2600 (hereinafter referred to as the S2600) series storage products are the third-generation products for small and medium-sized enterprises. Owing to evolutionary architectural design, the S2600 features easy management and energy-saving, and provides economical storage solutions and perfect data protection.

Highlights of the S2600

Abundant host ports (FC/iSCSI/SAS/FC-iSCSI Combo)

Backup technology combining backup software with snapshot

Disk hibernation function

Value-added software functions such as snapshot, local copy, and remote copy.

Energy-saving design (intelligent fan speed regulation, low power consumption, and DC power supply)

Evolutionary

Seamlessly combining FC SAN with IP SAN

The S2600 supports both FC and iSCSI host ports.

Supporting functions of mid-range products

The S2600 provides abundant functions of mid-range storage products, thus improving cost-effectiveness greatly. For example, the remote copy function provides higher-level disaster recovery services; the power-failure protection function ensures that data is written into disks when power supply fails; the disk pre-copy function prevents failure of two disks at the same time.

Easy

Easy installation and operation

The JWS installation-free technology is introduced to the ISM software. With a configuration wizard, you can complete all configurations within five minutes.

Convenient maintenance and support

The S2600 supports alarms in forms of short messages, emails, sound, and light. Modules such as controller, power supply, and hard disk support the hot-swap function

Easily available products and services

Our world-wide marketing network provides customers with quick and quality services.

Enhanced

Enhanced data protection

The S2600 supports multiple enhanced software functions, such as RAID6, snapshot, local copy, and remote copy, thus providing overall data security protection.

Perfect disk protection solutions

The S2600 combines snapshot with backup software, thus achieving rapid and efficient data backup.

The S2600 supports automatic check and repair of bad tracks.

Powerful expansibility

The S2600 supports background initialization of the RAID and online expansion.

The S2600 supports up to 96 disks and 256 hosts, thus facilitating expansion.

Carrier-class availability

The system reliability reaches 99.999%.

Energy-Saving

Energy-saving for hard disks

The industry-leading disk dormancy and disk down-speeding technologies reduce over 40% of power consumption of backup and archiving applications.

Energy-saving for components

The S2600 adopts low power-consuming and lead-free components, worth of a green product.

Energy-saving for power supplies

The S2600 provides AC and DC power supplies, thus meeting complicated power supply requirements. The DC power supply is more efficient and energy-saving.

Economical

Providing eight host ports

The S2600 provides eight host ports. You do not need a switch when the number of hosts on the network is less than eight.

Intermixing SAS and SATA to optimize space

You can choose the SAS or SATA disk to save data based on data importance and security level. In this way, your investment is protected to the utmost.

High-density design and space-saving

The well-designed minor 2U subrack (the height is less than 2U) facilitates installation and saves space in cabinets.
Technological achievements in the modern world are not only the convenience for the people around the globe, but also an incentive for the younger generations to review and develop their own thinking and ideas to advance the technology even further.

It is very important that every education, may it be from the lower primary to the PhD level, should all include the trace of technology in the process according to the level most suitable.

Even in any general education class or activity, the use of technology is highly encouraged for a better understanding and wider approach of the students from their very initial learning years.

The implementation of slideshows, computer research, and the involvement of latest gadgets and devices in the science subjects prepares the students for their upcoming challenge of living up to the expectations of the modern world solely dependent on technology. Therefore, it is also a major benefit for the upcoming generations to continue with the hold of the most developed technological field going on these days.

In this light, Jerry Liao of Infochat would like to invite you to join "Tech Tutor", a seminar designed for Learners, Educators, Experts and Parents.

The conference aims to explore the impact of Web 2.0 on Technology Enhanced Learning. The next generation of eLearning, eLearning 2.0, will involve computer-based communication, information sharing, inter-operability, and collaboration to support learning. Evolving technologies that impact on learning include web-based communities, hosted services, and applications such as social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, video and audio podcasting, wikis, blogs, social bookmarking, RSS, and social tagging. The conference aims to examine the impact and potential exploitation of these technologies in an educational setting.

The aim is to:

- facilitate collaboration between learners, educators, parents, and experts

- explore the potential impact of Web 2.0 on technology enhanced learning

- spread good practice in the use of Web 2.0 and learning technology

- consider evolving pedagogical approaches using Web 2.0

- raise the profile of research in learning technology

Techtutor will also be joined by more than 20 industry leaders showcasing their latest products, services and solutions.

So don't be left behind - Discover the next generation of learning by joining Jerry Liao's Techtutor seminar on September 16 and 17 at the SM Megatrade Hall 3. Tickets are available at all SM Ticketnet outlets.
