bitstop was honored to have attended the Cisco Threat and containment seminar held at Sheraton Towers in Singapore. The seminar basically provided a bird's eye view of security and the latest trends and statistics of hacker activity and threats (FBI Sans 2006). It also introduced the Cisco ASA 5500 series of firewall cum IPS (Intrusion protection system). The devices allows for the early detection of known and unknown activities and automatically works with the edge routers to block them. (Cool!)
The Cisco ASA 5500 series are supposed to be the upgrade to the cisco pix firewalls. They also introduced the mysdn.com site...

Manila, Philippines (AHN) - Local and foreign computer hackers will be tapped to try and break into an Internet-based voting system that will be pilot tested by the country's Commission on Elections (Comelec) starting July 10. The Internet voting system, developed by Spanish firm Scytl Consortium, is worth $452,000. Comelec will pilot test the system from July 10 to 30 for voters in Singapore, where there are 26,853 registered absentee voters.

A critical flaw has been uncovered and while we are waiting for a patch from microsoft to fix this problem, Microsoft has issued an advisory as to a possible workaround for DNS problem which is to disable remote management over RPC capability for DNS Servers through the registry key setting.

bitstop got a visit today from Mr Carlos Po and Mr Marvin Ladislao, Sales Director and Senior Manager of Haldane Philippines. Haldane distributes the popular O2 mobile device that runs under Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. We used it to test our streams at eradioportal using the various O2 devices and Smart's 3G and GPRS systems.

Provincial DTI officials led by Director Peter Mangabat welcomed CICT Commissioner Monchito Ibrahim on the occasion of a CICT readiness, planning and scorecard evaluation at the Dagupan People's Astrodome yesterday. Mr Ibrahim was once the country manager of Fujitsu Philippines. He also had various stints in Thailand and other activities before he was asked to help out at the CICT when ex-commissioner Dondi Mapa left.
Incidentally, Mr Mapa is married to Cherry Go, who is a classmate of Mr and Mrs Wilson Chua. We heard that Mr Mapa is now working for a Contact Center in The Mall of Asia. Our...

Microsoft Expression is the successor to Microsoft Frontpage. In addition to being able to create fully html 4.01 compliant websites, it is capable of supporting ASP.NET 2.0 from the ground up! Other features include full CSS 1.0/2.0/2.1 support and it also generates Section 508 compliant code.
bitstop is planning on giving a demo/preview of how easy Microsoft Expression can be used to create database driven, CSS, ASP.net 2.0 websites in the coming weeks. Watch this space for further announcements.
