Gravatar Ive never seen such an interest in a post. Thanks for all the feedback. Bitstop's wifi has a frequency assignment from NTC region I. Meridian has licenses issued for Metro Manila, and I think also for Cebu.

As to being shared or dedicated, the wifi Bitstop will be offering will be shared--otherwise, it would have a higher price tag.

We also have clients that wants dedicated bandwidth. In this case, the pricing is different. (higher).By having both fiber and microwave connection with an aggregate capacity in excess of 50mbps, we can assure dedicated clients of enough bandwidth.

There is no harm in asking, we appreciate all the great feedback. Again, our thanks.

Gravatar Hi Nick,

For ur example above, 512K is wat we call the burst signal, (maximum bandwidth that can offer to u by ur service provider. In ur case, most probably ur are using a NAT translation (maybe a gateway router or simple a computer that configured to share internet connection or wat we call ICS-Internet connection sharing). In ur case, U say 512Kbps with 4 user. That mention bandwidth will not automatically devided into 4 (128K). Theoritically, it is depend upon the application(protocol) for every user.

Let me give an example, user1,2,3 using only HTTP protocol and Use4 using FTP protocol and file sharing. In this particular example, the bandwidth consumming by user4 is higher load, compared to user1,2,3. Hope u get my point here.

For those who dont know the DSL Technology, It could be shared or dedicated bandwidth. Regarding Cable internet, it is purely shared bandwidth. If we say dedicated, we're talking about "leased line" wherein the bandwidth is fix. If we talk about shared, the bandwidth is variable depending on trafic.

# re: Unbeatable Internet Price!

Left by nick at 2/18/2005 2:28 PM
Gravatar Ok. I got ur point cisco, more or less. Thanks for the info, it enlightened me a bit.
But what happens when all 4 users uses the same application or downloaded a file at the same time? Does the bandwidth get divided equally?

# re: Unbeatable Internet Price!

Left by francisv at 2/18/2005 2:39 PM

# re: Unbeatable Internet Price!

Left by francisv at 2/18/2005 3:19 PM
Gravatar walker, if you have modem that supports v.92 (check your modem's manual), connecting to Bitstop (v.92 capable) will allow you to: 1) connect to the dialup system faster [V.92 modem cuts the modem negotiation or handshake time by up to 50%], 2) receive calls while using the line, and 3) experience faster web browsing by as much as 50% [for v.92 modems that support v.44 compression standard]

Gravatar Hi Nick,

If u'r using dsl, it is dedicated line from the point of ur private network going to service provider. But from ISP going to another site (ISP ulit), mostly they perform load sharing/load balancing.

If u apply dsl 512K, it not always constant as 512Kbps, u can test ur speed by using the below link:

http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp

Gravatar "If u'r using dsl, it is dedicated line from the point of ur private network going to service provider. But from ISP going to another site (ISP ulit), mostly they perform load sharing/load balancing. "

so it is possible to have a shared leased line to ?

# re: Unbeatable Internet Price!

Left by francisv at 2/18/2005 3:50 PM
Gravatar On top of the support for v.92, we also have redundant network connectivity (multiple internet gateways), and an excellent customer support service.

# re: Unbeatable Internet Price!

Left by francisv at 2/18/2005 3:57 PM
Gravatar nick, it depends on your ISP. If an ISP sells you a 128Kbps leased line but they only have 256Kbps to the internet (backbone) then it is possible for you to get the full 128Kbps. However, not all ISPs practice 1:1 bandwidth rationing. Some would overload their total capacity thus reducing your "committed information rate" (CIR) or the amount of data you can get at any given time.

Gravatar When you say leased line, it's "a telephone line that has been leased for private use. In some contexts, it's called a dedicated line. A leased line is usually contrasted with a switched line or dial-up line." (source: whatis.com). Although you're the only one using the leased line, your ISP might still overload their total capacity and you will not be getting the full bandwidth that you paid for. Always make sure that your leased line connection with your ISP is covered by a service level agreement (SLA) which indicates the metrics for measuring performance and the corresponding credit/refund/rebate if your ISP fails to deliver what is stated in the SLA.

Gravatar 56kbps? Are you sure you can give it at max. Most if not all company tells you that you are connected at 56kbps but actually they are just pretending "And they are good pretenders coz they make themselves believe". At first they well give you 56k at max but as you go on speed go down until you're just using 33.8kbps. If you can then good for you. Hope to hear more innovation later.
